Acceptance

This certainly can be viewed in very broad ways. I see acceptance as a daily focus on large and small circumstances. Rather than fighting or straining against anything, simply flow with the Tao and accept. If action must be taken, that’s OK, but accept what is happening, don’t fight it. Again, my favorite allegory: the flow of water down a hill. Does not stress or strain, just flows. If something blocks the path, water will patiently wait until a way around or over or under opens up. No hurry. Acceptance. If there is a stressful situation in your life, see if you can accept it and let it flow. The act of resistance to actions outside yourself may have the opposite effect than the one you wish for. You may in fact heighten the stress and make the problem situation worse by fighting it. This can be a difficult concept for many, but as the internal focus turns to acceptance of life and flow, it will become easier. I, for one, am looking forward to making this a real-life focus this month, and I will report in this journal how it turns out as it goes along. One note: Jesus accepted his fate, he did not fight it, he “flowed” with the direction of life and the Tao. This is a good example of how to live. Jesus set an example of acceptance. Though much of his message has been somewhat distorted by modern religion (this may not be fair, the distortions started hundreds of years ago), and I believe there are preachers of the Gospel who truly feel they are doing God’s work, though they may or may not be misguided. But here is where I step in with Acceptance. I choose to accept and believe that what will be will be. Acceptance can also be tied in with neutrality. To accept you do not have to condone. This does not mean that you actively or positively believe or support an idea, person, proclamation, etc. You can feel acceptance for most anything without taking a pro or con stance. But you avoid negative or positive feelings about the topic or person. Acceptance can be neutral. This is very powerful. If we each have lessons to learn and trials and tribulations to deal with in this incarnation we must first stop fighting what happens. We must face all of it and accept that this is the way it is. And do what needs to be done. There is a great deal going on around us that we cannot change directly. Confrontations, innuendo, arguments, rumors, all cause more ego power to be manifested. Not good. Acceptance nullifies the other side, but better yet, try to move towards a view that there is no other side. We are all in this together. And one of the big lessons is acceptance.

More: Acceptance of circumstances we cannot change rather than getting worked up about about them saves energy and avoids the need for redirection of focus. What can we influence and change? Only ourselves, and that is debatable. We can show others alternative methods and directions of thought and action, but only they can make any change for themselves. Accept the way they are and their circumstances and the flow will be easier.
