Observing Ego: Part 2

Our old friend, Ego, is back. Here are some thoughts concerning the trickster and maybe how we can avoid being "fooled and ruled" by ego. First of all, ego wants to judge everything and everybody and that is dangerous because we are simply judging ourselves. What we don’t like in ourselves are the things we don’t like in others. If we like ourselves we will like others. Simple, eh? Simple.

Alas, the battle, or maybe the co-existing with ego is a challenge. I started to realize that I AM battling ego (“
Edging God Out” as my friend, Jodi, says). And my ego wants to feel smug and superior. This makes me sick. I had always thought I had this under control but now I see I don’t. In fact, I see it popping up all the time in little ways now. [My ego talking: "WHY do you have a website about this? Why do you have a Facebook page? Why are you writing a journal? Who do you think you are? You don't know anything! Everyone will think you're strange. Everyone will know your an idiot! Trying to get attention, aren't you? You should be very worried about all of this, you know!"] And it goes on and on and on. Ego does not want Spirit to grow, they are not very compatible, believe me.

It isn’t so much a battle as a balance in which we hope to become more immersed in Spirit. Being aware of ego and ego’s little tricks and techniques helps us grow in Spirit. We can step back and allow our true selves to witness ego in action. I just read this morning that 70% or a large number of people of this world are not aware of the ego/Spirit difference, that they live in the ego world alone. Living in the ego world is the root of dissatisfaction, unhappiness, dis-ease, fear (especially), worry, and so on. Moving into Spirit brings us full circle and back to where we come from and belong. It sounds simple, it is simple, but it is also an alien concept to most people. They truly believe that they are “I” and that is the extent of their being. So...what can they get out of all of this for themselves? The goal for the 70% is to build up riches, power, fame, etc. The problem is that this DOES NOT satisfy their needs which are actually soul (Spirit)-based, but they don’t realize this. The constant drive for more, more, more, is ego driven. You only need so much “stuff” and money to live happily. More, more, more, does not make a difference, except to the ego. And then you can never get enough. Spirit knowledge and life-focus are the keys. Say hello to your ego, acknowledge it, witness it, be “friends” with it, and move past it. After all, without our ego we wouldn’t be where we are, wouldn’t understand many things and wouldn’t be having this opportunity.
