A few mini-topics/thoughts/observations:
- One of the ways we feed our ego is through others. Asking others for compliments or hinting that we need some strokes. We are usually quite adept at feeding our own egos, but enlisting people we know or are around is common. But after a while those others realize what we are doing and will start to stay away. So be careful drawing attention to yourself. Actions speak louder than words. If someone compliments you on their own take it gracefully and thank them. You know if you’ve done good work or not. We just don’t rely on ourselves as we should. We know everything we need to know about life, good and bad, etc. but we need to develop our intuitive knowledge. If you are reading this you probably have done just that or are getting read to.
- Idols: we can get attached to objects, ideas, money, people, relationships, etc. These can become “idols” that we attribute too much power to. None of these are permanent, only our soul is. The pursuit of such things, if it becomes too much of a focus can slow down your spiritual growth.
- In the egoic state, to enhance and feel good about “ourselves” we have to win. In all interactions we must win to get the upper hand. This is what the ego demands. As we learn to control our ego and move into Spirit we lose that need. We can just be. And we’re fine with it.
- I saw an interesting description somewhere yesterday. Sorry I don’t have the site handy. The idea was that ego is a parasite and we (humans) are its host. Yuck? Yeah, but there is some truth here. The ego does live off of us, and it wants us uncomfortable, or sick, or angry, anything but calm and clear and silent. Our true, soul-self comes through at that time and deep down we realize that we don’t need to give in to ego’s demands. In fact, we can begin to slide ego to the side with little attachment or connection. It is still there, but we don’t really need to deal with it so much. It becomes easier to recognize others who are ego driven, as well as those that are spirit driven. Of course, most everyone is a combination of the two, though there are examples of the far ends of the spectrum. We all know total egoic people, and if we’re lucky we may have met a totally spiritual person who is aware and present.
